There are structures that simply mark a location, and then there are structures that tell the story of a people.

We are incredibly proud to unveil a new vision for the Bamenda Highlands: a magnificent double-arch gateway concept by Abakwa Toks. Spanning a major highway and overlooking the rolling green hills of the North West Region, this monument is not just a feat of engineering—it is a visual masterpiece deeply woven into the cultural fabric of the Grassfields.

The inscription is bold, defiant, and hopeful: "CAM GOOD, ABAKWA BREATHES."

But the true power of this monument lies in its intricate design. Every curve, color, and symbol speaks the language of the Bamenda Highlander. Here is a breakdown of the profound cultural significance behind this concept.

👑 The Atoghu Connection: Wearing Our Identity

The most striking visual element of the arch is its vibrant, geometric pattern. The black background adorned with continuous, interlocking gold and yellow threads is an unmistakable architectural tribute to the Atoghu (or Toghu).

The Atoghu is the iconic, traditional regalia of the Bamenda Grassfields. Historically, it was a fabric reserved for royalty, the Fon (king), and high-ranking titleholders. Today, it is a globally recognized symbol of Cameroonian pride.
