"Bruises": Bamenda Poets and Musicians Unite to Break the Silence on Gender-Based Violence
BAMENDA, CAMEROON –05th November
This November, as the world marks the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, local artists in Bamenda will raise their voices in a powerful act of creative protest. "Bruises," a special spoken word poetry and music event, is set to take place on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 02 PM at the Alliance Française at Veterinary Junction.
The event will feature compelling performances from some of the region's most talented poets, including Mottanni, De Preacher, Yahje Medine, Tsakeng Diane. They will be joined by musical artists Ayeah Leonette, Mag Bila, Keshiel, and Zita Light, Afanyu HumlandMusic who will provide stirring musical interludes, weaving a narrative of resilience, outrage, and hope.
"Bruises" aims to use the transformative power of art to confront the pervasive issue of gender-based violence (GBV) head-on. The performances are designed to educate, challenge harmful societal norms, foster solidarity with survivors, and advocate for a safer, more equitable future for all.
“A bruise fades, but the pain of violence can last a lifetime. This event is about turning that pain into power—through poetry, through music, and through collective community action,” said Mottanni, the event organizer. “We are creating a necessary space for a difficult but vital conversation, aligning with the global mission to eliminate violence against women and girls.”
The event falls within the international campaign of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from November 25 (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day).
