A missed opportunity on the Santa Parks Giant Scrren
During a recent visit to Commercial Avenue in Bamenda, I was delighted to see the new giant display screen at Santa Park. It’s a fantastic addition to our city, and I truly appreciate the effort to modernize our public spaces.
However, I couldn’t help but notice that the screen’s content seems limited—almost exclusively—to European football: Champions League, La Liga, and other foreign matches. While I understand the popularity of football, I believe this screen could serve a much greater purpose for our community.
Public displays like this should reflect and celebrate our city’s identity—its culture, businesses, and local talent. Imagine showcasing:
- Music from Northwest artists
- Fashion by Northwest designers
- Art, sculptures, and poetry from local creators
- Cultural dances and regional events
These are not just forms of entertainment; they are expressions of who we are. By prioritizing foreign content, we miss a valuable opportunity to promote our own culture, support local talent, and instill pride in our heritage.
I urge those managing the screen to diversify its content. Let’s use this platform to elevate our stories, our creativity, and our community—because they deserve to be seen.
